There’s a Place for You Here
Preventing youth substance use isn’t the job of one agency or one program — it takes all of us. Whether you have an hour a month or a passion project, here’s how to plug in.
-
You’re not just the audience for this work — you’re the leaders of it.
Join Voices of Youth, our student-led groups at Amador, Argonaut and Independence High Schools, and help design campaigns that actually speak to your peers.
Attend a coalition meeting (third Tuesdays, 3:30 PM — and yes, students get a gift card)
Become our Youth Sector Representative — a real seat at the table with adult decision-makers.
Go national — through our CADCA affiliation, youth leaders can access national prevention training and connect with teen leaders from coalitions across the country. Ask us about CADCA Youth Leadership opportunities.
Earn volunteer hours at SSAY events — complete the In-Kind Student Volunteer Form on the website.
-
You are the single biggest influence on whether your child uses substances — bigger than peers, bigger than social media.
Come to a monthly meeting and share what you’re seeing and what families need.
Join the Youth & Parent Programs Committee to help shape family-focused programming.
Use and share our [Parent Resources] — conversation guides, warning signs, and local supports.
Follow us on Facebook and share campaigns with other families.
-
Bring SSAY into your school or program — presentations, Red Ribbon Week support, and prevention materials.
Represent the Schools sector on the coalition (we currently have an open seat!)
Join a committee — Data & Evaluation and Outreach & Engagement especially benefit from educator insight.
-
Become a Community Partner — sponsor an event, host a training, or share campaigns with your customers and staff
Make an in-kind contribution — goods, services, venue space, or volunteer time all count (and help us meet our federal grant match). Complete the In-Kind Contribution & Volunteer Form.
-
Attend a meeting — no commitment required, all are welcome.
Volunteer at an event — Red Ribbon Week, Take Back Drugs Day, community fairs.
Join a committee — every committee currently has open seats.
Spread the word — follow, like, and share. Awareness is prevention.
Ready to start? Come to our next meeting — third Tuesday, 3:30 PM, in person or on Zoom.
